On July 11-13, Synergía, in partnership with the Observatório dos Direitos Humanos, Democracia e Cidanania, the Comité Paralimpico da Guiné-Bissau, the Federação das Associações de Defesa e Promoção dos Direitos das Pessoas com Deficiencia da Guiné-Bissau, and the Associação Guineense de Reabilitação e Integração dos Cegos, hosted in Bissau a comprehensive training on the African system for the protection of human rights. The event was attended by 30 human rights defenders and representatives of civil society organizations, as well as representatives of the National Human Rights Commission of Guinea Bissau and the Ministry for Women, Family and Social Solidarity. The first-of-its-kind initiative aimed to equip participants with a theoretical and practical understanding of the regional human rights system, and particularly the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, with the ultimate goal of a proactive engagement of state and non-state actors within the system.
