Synergía hosts training activities for Portuguese and Spanish-speaking African human rights defenders

On December 9-11, Synergía hosted in Praia, Cape Verde a training on the African system of protection of human rights for human rights defenders from Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Principe.

The 3-day activity, which constituted the second step to strengthen advocacy and participation of HRDs from the mentioned countries, focused on the African system of protection of human rights, its relationship with the African Union organs, its organs, mechanisms and instruments; it also provided participants with practical information and skills to effectively engage with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Human rights defenders in attendance had different background, namely on disability rights, democracy and rule of law, women’s rights among others.

The training was closed by Marisa Carvalho, the Chairperson of the Cape Verde Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG).
